Goat Milk Skin Care - Keeping it Natural

There are so many things I could write about and cover in this post about milk, cow vs. goat, which one is best to drink, etc... But we just don't have time for all of that. Today's purpose will be looking at why we should use goat milk in our skin care routine and why.

Snickers saying hi on farm

Typically when people hear about goat milk, many are skeptical, they think of the "stink" that is known with goats and associate it with a "stinky milk" and their thoughts just turn to "how can a person use that stinky milk?"...

(this is Snickers - she is highly offended when people say goat's milk stinks. She says hers is the absolute BEST in house milk you could ever get and NOT STINKY!)

Let's take a moment and appreciate the facts that:

  1. Our milk IS NOT STINKY.... Yes, it is true - when you get milk off of the shelf at a market - it can have a bit of that goat smell to it and it can taste off. The milk we get from our farm is done so in a manner that our stinky guy does not get anywhere near the girls when they are in the milking seasons. This does not make him happy at all - but he has his buddies to keep him company and he can still see all his girls through the fence.

  2. When processed in a clean, sterile environment the milk retains its natural creaminess. On the farm we milk by hand and the milk goes IMMEDIATELY into a fridge that tells the milk "freeze - hold that yummy taste right there". It is then later strained and put up for future use in other products.

  3. Our girls are well fed, nourished, and only natural products are used to ensure that they have the best possible life while on the farm. Through this process of treating them naturally we ensure that there are no additives, hormones, or other unfriendly products that have a chance of getting into the the milk - we have CLEAN milk.

See- so yes, the milk you get off of the the shelf in the market may not have those benefits to them, or they may do a few of those but not have the advantage of doing it all. When processing and selling milk to stores you have to have a much larger establishment and it is harder for them to run things as if on a small farm with all natural care and supplements.

So now....the purpose of this post.... why should we use this fun farm fresh

alternative in our skin care?

Goat Milk for Skin Care

First of all - if you aren't aware - take a look at the ingredients in your skin care products. Your make-up, lotions, your face washes and toners, the moisturizer you use, perfumes, even toothpaste & deodorant. That is a long list you guys - one of the reasons I am wanting so much to get you some great alternative things you can do at home to start switching away from those products.

IF you are NOT already trying to switch over to natural products - you might want to start thinking about that soon. This article has a great breakdown of some of those toxins. It was stated that on average women use 12 skin care products a day, exposing themselves to over 168 chemical ingredients in just that one day. Imagine that - all of those chemicals going into your body and you aren't even realizing it, just to make us more beautiful...

There truly are alternatives you guys. We DO NOT have to expose our bodies and alter our chemical make-ups, for the sake of beauty. Amazingly enough I have found A TON of alternatives that allow for natural health, beauty, and wellness that we can use that come straight from our earth, that are overly processed and that do not have any added chemicals or toxins. One of the most interesting finds has been the addition of goat milk for the skin.

Who would have known right? It is like the goats themselves put on a cape and "fly" through the air and say "Here I am to save the day...." Um, no actually they are saying "pet me, pet me, pet me..." These goats - they love their attention. And I absolutely LOVE the natural support that their milk can provide for our skin, Check out these benefits:

Rich in Butterfat and Calcium

This means that when applied to our skin, it helps nourish and heal. It helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, it helps to close up and heal cracks in our skin, and it seals in moisture keeping us from drying out.

High in Selinium

Selenium is an active agent that helps support the immune system, fight free radicals (unstable atoms that can damage cells causing illness and aging), and can even help reduce the risk of certain cancer cells. In goat milk products it helps to support the natural cell regeneration and growth of the skin and protects against dangerous UV rays we get from the sun.

Hosts Vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, & E and probiotics

All of these vitamins are great support for the skin. Here we are helping cell regrowth, repairing and renewing the skin, we are fighting free radicals, helping to tone down and fight acne, and helping with the elasticity of the skin.

Closest PH levels to our skin

Goat milk, of all milks, has the closest PH level to our skin. This means that it will help restore our skin to its natural balance, eliminating excess oils on our skin, helping to tone down the excessive dryness of certain areas and make our overall skin a healthy balance.

Lactic Acid

Cleansing is the word here. The lactic acid in goats milk helps cleanse impurities from the skin and breaks down the old dead skin cells to reveal the fresh and healthy skin.

Raw Truth

.....Seriously you guys..... we have some major super heroes here that allow us to use their milk for the benefit of our health and wellness. I LOVE knowing that what we can glean from our farm can provide us and others with options that allow us to NOT have to travel the path that the store shelves offer, but that we can make a path of our own - we can fight signs of aging NATURALLY, we can support healthy skin naturally, we can eliminate toxins from our skin care and replace them with natural vitamins minerals and probiotics straight from a farm fresh source. I am kinda digging that.

Hop on the goat milk journey today you guys - try out a product. It doesn't even have to be one of our products (but I do have to plug in that our products are super duper awesome with all kinds of natural oils and supplements to support healthy skin!) IF you want to see our goat milk options take a look here at our Gregoryhouse Farms page.

My sons first goat milk soap came from a small shop in Tennessee and after that he was SOLD! He has extremely sensitive skin and he always has a hard time finding product that soothes his skin and makes him feel clean, fresh, and smell (um not so stinky)...he is a teenager after all...

Snickers and Brownie both agree - goat milk is AMAZING, and these girls are amazing at what they do! They love us, they take care of their littles, they get in silly tiffs and provide entertainment, and they give the MOST AMAZING MILK for us to use for our needs and yours!
