Summer time is definitely here and with that comes a whole host of fun, busy-ness, and ....... sorry guys - damage. Yep, if you do not protect yourself adequately, you can find that extended periods of fun in the sun can bring with it extra sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles, sun burnt skin. It can damage those healthy skin cells very easily if not protected.
I absolutely LOVE making and sharing amazing and wonderful ways to integrate natural, non-toxic products with you that you can easily recreate and use in your everyday life to support your natural health and wellness journey. When having fun in the sun there are some great products that we can make to support and provide nourishment and regeneration to sun-kissed skin. So be sure to keep reading until the end to get 5 AMAZING natural after-sun care DIY recipes to support a healthy and happy summer season.
As I provide you with those great recipes below, I also want you to know, as a maker, that there are a few products that I would rather recommend you bite the bullet and buy vs make and one of them would be sunscreen. There are essential oils out there that have spf protection, but I have not found a safe way to provide the adequate sun protection that would be needed for a duration of hours in the sun, or here in the Texas heat that we have for at least half of the year. After doing years of research one of the most important things I have come to realize is that I want the products I share with you to support a LONG, natural and healthy lifestyle. With the harmful effects that the sun's rays can have on our skin the SPF skin protection is something I want to be sure is taken care of by the professionals that have thousands of dollars to formulate the best organic and natural products and to put the testing behind the product. I believe in the power of natural products, but I don't have the materials or equipment to test against the powerful rays of the sun's force.
So with that being said - here is a post you can check out with the top 15 non-toxic, natural and organic proven sunscreens on the market today from sustainablykindliving.com.
From the list on the above post, my favorite natural, non-toxic, paraben free sunscreen is this one.
I love that it has no harsh chemicals, that it uses a clear non-nano zinc oxide so I don't look like a white ghost, and that the ingredients used are skin-nourishing oils that will add to my skins moisture and not take away from it.
So- now that we have established your sunscreen and found you one that is safe, all natural, and non-toxic - let's get to the fun making and the "after care" for when our skin gets a bit too crispy or when we want to just remoisturize that sun-kissed skin a bit after playing hard all day!
Each one of the following recipes are great additions to your natural summer go-bag!
Whether you are planning on hanging out in the sun half the time, or you just want to have those natural summer aromatherapy vibes...these recipes have you covered!
